fugitive slave act: Notecard confession
Notecard confessions is an innovative way to get your students into the shoes of people from history. When teaching different things throughout history, your students can do a research project on certian aspects of that time period and then present what a person in that time would have gone through. In my example, I put myself into the shoes of a slave during the undergroud railroad period. A student could also do the notecard confession from the point of view of the white slave owner or the northerners who wanted to help the escaping slaves. There are many different ways students could approach a project like this and I think thats what makes it fun. Students have the oppportunity to choose what they are going to learn further about and each project is most likely to be a little bit different and have a different story attached to it. I think this is a great way to get students thinking and exploring things that they may have not explored otherwise.
